#08 The reason why you don't follow through on your New Year's resolutions!
Episode #08

Do you still make New Year's resolutions? If so do you follow through?
We had a good chuckle when we read what the number one resolution for 2020 was…Ready? “Actually doing my New Year's resolution!”
Well, that speaks volumes and we all know it all too well! Statistics suggest that only 8% of those who set up resolutions actually follow through and achieve those goals. In this episode, we explore why they don’t generally work and what to do alternatively to make the changes we want to see happen!
We talked about:
The top 10 New Year’s resolutions of 2020
Why resolutions rarely ever work
Why we are afraid to set specific goals and how to overcome that mental hurdle
How our identity and beliefs will always be stronger than our will
How to set specific and targeted goals rather than pie in the sky resolutions
Here is a breakdown of the SMART goal setting system we spoke about in this Episode:
Specific. The goal should have a clear, highly-specific endpoint. If your goal is too vague, it won’t be SMART.
Measurable. You need to be able to accurately track your progress, so you can judge when a goal will be met.
Attainable. Of course, setting a goal that’s too ambitious will see you struggle to achieve it. This will sap your motivation, both now and in the future.
Relevant. The goal you pick should be pertinent to your chosen field or should benefit you directly.
Time-Bound. Finally, setting a timeframe for your goal helps quantify it further, and helps keep your focus on track.
We all want to turn a new leaf and start fresh and focused in the new year. It is a natural and beautiful process since it is usually the time where we take stock of our lives and see how we want to change and improve them.
When applied correctly and with clarity, it can really set us up for success and lead us to an upward spiral of achievement and confidence!

Lightbulb moment: See things as you want them to be, not as they are. BE. DO. HAVE.
